Re: How to calculate GATE score card percentage? Eligibility criteria for GATE as per new guidelines?

You should be a B.Tech pass student or in final year if you want to apply for GATE . The percentile in GATE will determine which college you will get for your M.Tech.

Rank between 700- 750 will increase your chance of getting admission into IITs.

The GATE score is calculated by following formula:

Re: How to calculate GATE score card percentage? Eligibility criteria for GATE as per new guidelines?

GATE Score is calculated using the formula

Where the denotations represent the belowgiven quantities:
m = marks obtained by the candidate.
a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
S = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
ag= global average of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years
sg= global standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years

the lowest gate score of a candidate can be 0 while the highest can be 1000….

N in GATE ,there is no percentage ,there is percentile….n its calculated using the below given formula

percentile= (total appeared- all india rank) x100 / total appeared

the variables total appeared & all india rank will be provided to u in ur score card …

m = marks obtained by the candidate.
a = average marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard, in the current year.
s = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard, in the current year.

A typical qualitative interpretation of the GATE SCORE, for example, can be as follows:

The percentile score is calculated as follows:
Let N be the total number of candidates appearing in that paper and nc be the number of candidates who have the same all India rank c in the same paper (there can be bunching at a given all India rank). Then all the candidates, whose all India rank is r, will have the same percentile score P, where
P = {(no. of candidates securing marks less than the candidate concerned)/N} x 100

Re: How to calculate GATE score card percentage? Eligibility criteria for GATE as per new guidelines?

HAI DEAR.......
THE CALCULATION IS AS FOLLOWS....

RANGE OF GATE SCORE
:

The GATE Score of a candidate is in the range 0 to 1000. It reflects the performance of a candidate, irrespective of the GATE paper or year in which he/she has qualified. Candidates with same GATE Score from different GATE papers and/or years can be considered to have the same performance level.

The marks obtained by the candidate is normalized on the basis of the average and standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on the scorecard in GATE. Subsequently, this is scaled with respect to the global average and global standard deviation so as to facilitate performance comparison across GATE papers and over a block of years since GATE 2004.

GATE SCORE CALCULATION :

Formula For GATE Score is as given

(1000/150)*[ag + sg ( (m-a)/s )]

Where
m = marks obtained by the candidate.
a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
s = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
ag= global average of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years (2005-2008)

sg= global standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years (2005-2008)

GATE Percentile Score

The percentile score of a candidate indicates the percentage of candidates who appeared in the same paper and scored less marks than him/her. It is calculated as follows: If N is the total number of candidates appearing in a paper, then the percentile score P is given as,
P = (number of candidates who have scored less marks than the candidate / N) x 100

Re: How to calculate GATE score card percentage? Eligibility criteria for GATE as per new guidelines?

Dear friend,

The rank tells us the which positions we get in all india and percentile indication of your standing as a percentage of the total number of students taking the test.

To convert the Rank in the Percentile Method is given below:

Method 1 : For Example, we think that you get 4th rank in All India and there total 2000 students appeared in the test. Then your percentile will be :

1) No. of students outperformed = 2000 - 4 = 1996

2) Total Number of students taking the test = 2000

3) Percentile = (1996/2000) * 100 = 99.8

Method 2:

In another example when there are ranks same:

Exam taken by 25000 people and you shared 4th rank along with 6 other people means 6 other students also have same rank 6th. In this case, Percentile is calculated as:

1) No. of students outperformed = 25000 - 4 = 24996

2) Half the number of people who share your rank = 3 (6/2)

3) 24996 - 3 = 24993

4) Percentile = (24993/25000) * 100 = 99.97

By using above methods you can calculate your rank in percentile.

And as you are in 3rd year you are not eligible in the GATE 2012 but you can apply in the GATE 2013 because the GATE 2013 application will starts in September 2012 and that time you will be in final year. And appearing students of final year are eligible for GATE 2013.

best of luck

Re: How to calculate GATE score card percentage? Eligibility criteria for GATE as per new guidelines?

Dear,
The procedure for calculation of percentile is the same for almost all those competitive entrance exams which consider the percentage or provide a percentile score to each candidate. Then use this formula: P=((T-R)/R)*100 where R is the all india rank and T is the total no. of students appeared in the exam.Bachelor's degree holders Engineering or equivalent (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final year can apply for gate.master degree holders can also apply for the gate.candidate can apply as many attempts as he wants. No age limit, required.gate exam score is valid for 2 years.there is negative marking for the test.1/3rd marks will be deducted for each incorrect response.
So prepare well.BEST OF LUCK.

Re: How to calculate GATE score card percentage? Eligibility criteria for GATE as per new guidelines?

I don’t know how it came to ur mind ,but this thing is very typical…u see gate score of any person wud list his own potential, the highest score obtained in his year of GATE ,plus average marks of all the candidates who ever took the GATE examination …it is so exclusive that it was introduced among the most prestigious exams all across the globe ,wid a section in Wikipedia tooo….

GATE Score is calculated using the formula

Re: How to calculate GATE score card percentage? Eligibility criteria for GATE as per new guidelines?

first, determine your all India Ranking. this will be there in ur test result.
Then, find out the total number of students appeared in your category.(as in, appearing in ur subject)
Then use this formula: P=((T-R)/R)*100,
where,Percentile, R : all india Rank and T:total no. of candidates appearing in your subject.

for eg:700 is ur all india rank, and 3000 is the no.of students appearing in your category,
then,P=((3,000-700) / 3,000) x 100 ---> P=(2,300 / 3,000) x 100 ---> P= 0.766 x 100 ---> P=76.6%
