    eligibility for the exam

    one must have bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university

    age limit

    A general category candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August 2013

    age limit is relaxed in specific cases
    upto a maximum of five years to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.

    upto a maximum of three years to Other Backward Classes

    upto a maximum of 10 years to PH

    no. of attempts

    4 times for general
    7 times for obc
    there is no limit for sc/st

    selection procedure of IAS
    preliminary exam

    Re: Will I be for IAS exam next year at the age of 30 years?

    Dear pal,
    • Age criteria need to be satisfied in addition to the academic requirement which is bachelor degree. Relaxation is provided for age criteria to a little extent .
    • The maximum age for appearing for a general category aspirant is 30.
    • While for the BC, MBC aspirant it is 33.
    • For physically challenged, defence person, SC, ST can make their attempt till they are 35 years of age.
    • The age is as on August 1st of the corresponding year. You must not have completed the age as per your category on the date mentioned .
    • so if you have completed 30 years of age and belong to general category then you can not apply for the service exam . Otherwise you can apply for it.

    Hello,
    Indian administrative exams are conducted for the students whose age is in between 21 to 30 as per the date of announcement for the filling up of examination forms.
    Chances are very less for you as they have announced that you should not have attained the age 30 before 1st August 2013...
    So as per this you are not eligible, try to concentrate for other exams and work hard for that...

    All the best

    Re: Will I be for IAS exam next year at the age of 30 years?

    Yes you can give your try cat the civil service examinations until the age of 30.
    The age criteria for verious categoriy students are as follows:
    ~General category students can appear until the age of 30;
    ~OBC candidates can appear until the age of 33;
    ~SC/ST candidates can appear until the age of 35;
    ~There is a further extension for physically handicapped students up to 40 years .

    But there is a limitation on the number of attempts that you can give which is given below:

    ~4 attempts for general category students;
    ~7 attempts for SC/ST candidates;
    ~No limitation however for SC/ST candidates.

    So considering the above eligibility criteria you are eligible for the exam one last time.Also you must have passed a degree course from a recognized university.

    Re: Will I be for IAS exam next year at the age of 30 years?

    See , the eligibility criterion of the IAS exam is given below-
    >>>candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee.

    >>>candidate must be between 21 to 30 Years.

    >>>Candidate must have a graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized institutes.

    >>>the following age relaxations are available-
    5 years for SC/ST candidates
    3 years for OBC candidates
    5 years for defence service personals

    So if you will cross the age of 30 next year then ,you cannot appear for the IAS exam.
    But in-case you belong to any reserved category ,then you surely can appear for the exam.
    as you will be able to avail the age relaxation.

    good luck

    yes you are eligible for the exam because in next exam your age is still 29 till march so that you are eligible for the exam .
    But you should fulfill the other criteria like:
    Education qualification .
    You have to complete your graduation from any recognized university .

    Age limit :
    your age must be below 30 as you are in general cast .

    No of attempts :
    4 for general cast

    so this is your last chance after that you are not eligible for the exam so that prepare hard so that you will crack the exam .

    good luck

    Soory, but you will not be eligible to give the UPSC civil services exam as you will be completing 30 years in march 2013 and next notification of UPSC prelims exam will come out in Feb or march 2013.

    But you should not loose hope and continue in your present job and try to excel in that.
    If you could have made up your mind 2-3 years ago about giving UPSC exams than you could have appeared in the exams

    The maximum age limit for OC candidates to be eligible for UPSC exams is below 30 years as on August 1st of the corresponding year in which the exam is held. For example, if the exam is held in June 2013, then you should be less then 30 years after 1st August 2013. As your date of birth is in March and will reach 30 years, so you cannot apply for UPSC exam further.

    Re: Will I be for IAS exam next year at the age of 30 years?

    Actually , to apply for the IAS exam , one should have completed GRADUATION fro a Recognised university .
    So, firstofall, you should have completed Graduation .

    Later , for the General category candidates , Age limit is 21-30 years only

    So, as you mentioned that , you belong to General category , then your age should be in between 21-30 years only
    This means that , the candidates who are in the age below 30 years , all are eligible .

    So, you can also apply for the exam . No need to bother in this matter .

    Remember that , this will be your Last attempt for the Exam .

    In general , for the General category candidates , they will have only 4 attempst which they can give below 30 years of age .

    So, as you are almost at the age of 30 years , so this will be your Last attempt .

    Good luck
