    Re: In what way the score is calculated of GATE entrance exam?

    Hi

    Till 2012 separate formulas for used for calculating GATE score.From 2013 on wards,formula was changed.

    New formula is

    Gate Score of the candidate is computed from

    S=Sq + (St-Sq) M-Mq
    Mt-Mq

    Where

    S=GATE Score(normalized ) of the candidate
    M=Marks obtained by a candidate in paper
    Mq= Qualifying marks for general category candidates in the paper
    Mt = Average marks of top .1% or 10(which ever is higher) candidates in the paper
    St= GATE score assigned to Mt(Around 900)
    Sq=GATE score assigned to Mq(Around 300)

    Re: In what way the score is calculated of GATE entrance exam?

    The latest formula for calculating gate score is as follows:

    S=Sq + (St-Sq) (M-Mq/Mt-Mq)

    Where,

    S=GATE Score(normalized ) of the candidate

    M=Marks obtained by a candidate in paper

    Mq= Qualifying marks for general category candidates in the paper

    Mt = Average marks of top .1% or 10(which ever is higher) candidates in the paper

    St= GATE score assigned to Mt(Around 900)

    Sq=GATE score assigned to Mq(Around 300)

    Now this system of GATE score is taken so that the toughness of the paper for one branch doesn't effect others and ultimately the effect of toughness of the paper of one branch doesn't give benfit to students appeared in different branch of GATE. So you must be clear for one thing that GATE score and marks are different and it is also possible that a student having higher marks who appeared in different branch with easier paper may have low GATE score comparing to the student having lower marks in tougher branch paper. Thus in the end all students are benefitted according to the efforts they had put

    For calculating you just need to put information in your GATE in the formula
    All the values you can easily find on your GATE score card and put in the formula

    For eg;

    Marks of candidate (M): 70

    avg marks of top 0.1% or 10 (Mt): 90

    Mq:25

    Sq: 300

    St:900

    Gate score S=715
