Re: What is the new syllabus for GRE?

    Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
Here are the credentials of the new GRE:
    1) The grading scale and point increment has changed … the new scale system is 130-170 scale, with 1 point increments for verbal and quantitative reasoning sections.
    2) The fees for Indian students to take the examination of GRE will be about Rs. 3500/-
    3) GRE score will be valid for 5 years
    4) The pattern for new GRE exam will be as follows:

    SECTION 1:GRE VERBAL
MARKING SCHEME: 130-170 score scale (perfect score is 170 & 130 is the lowest possible score), in 1-point increments

    CHANGES MADE :
The students wont have to interpret the vocabulary in isolation which means in the new GRE ,a reduced emphasis will be given to individual vocabulary, rather students will need to interpret and evaluate the larger portion of what an author is trying to argue, so focusing on the meaning of the entire sentence rather than individual words will be tested.

    SECTION 2:GRE QUANTITATIVE
MARKING SCHEME: 130-170 score scale, in 1-point increments
The quantitative section of the GRE is meant to test the Fundamental mathematics, Fractions, Decimals, Percentages, Ratios, proportions, Averages ,Exponents, Radicals, Algebra, Geometry,Specific Techniques for Attacking Quantitative Problems,Charts & Tablesin the students …..

    The main sections of quantitative ,the GRE will be designed to consist of are;
    Topics in Arithmetic
Number Systems, Percentages, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Speed, Time and Distance, Pipes, Cisterns and Work Time, Simple & Weighted Averages, Ratio, Proportion & Variation, Mixtures and Alligation and Clocks and Calendars.
Topics in Algebra / Modern Math
Permutation & Combination, Probability, Arithmetic & Geometric Progression, Quadratic Equations, Set Theory, Inequalities and Basic statistics.
    Topics in Geometry
Basic concepts in Geometry, Co-ordinate Geometry, Mensuration and Trigonometry.
    GRE Data Analysis
A bar chart, pie chart, table, line graph or a combination of one or more of these forms of representing data will be presented. These are followed by questions based on the information provided in the tables or charts.

    SECTION 3:ANALYTICAL WRITING
MARKING SCHEME: 0-6 score scale, in half-point increments.
The Analytical Writing measure consists of two separately timed analytical writing tasks:

a)A 30-MINUTE "ANALYZE AN ISSUE" TASK
The Issue task presents an opinion on an issue of general interest followed by specific instructions on how to respond to that issue. You are required to evaluate the issue, consider its complexities and develop an argument with reasons and examples to support your views.

b)A 30-MINUTE "ANALYZE AN ARGUMENT" TASK
The Argument task would require you to evaluate a given argument according to specific instructions. You will need to consider the logical soundness of the argument rather than agree or disagree with the position it presents.
