Hello,
In today's banking world everything is same, everyone is required to do every work.
But nowadays PO and Specialist officer are two categories.
PO has to do each and every work from cash collection to loan disbursement i.e. all work of banking.
Specialist officer are desired to have the specialisation in the field for which they have chosen for like IT, HR, Marketing etc.
SO have to be well versed in their field.
PO has to be all rounders.
Both the post are equally attractive and requires hardwork and commitment.
All the best.

Hello,
The main difference between the two is only like a difference between dhoni (bat + bowl + wicket keeping) and gautam gambhir (only bat).
Such as PO can be deputed to any work ranging from cash handling to loan disbursement to CASA opening and SO is deputed for special work like of IT, HR or Marketing or in some special field only..

hi
i\'m working as a po in IOB for the last 6 months.now i got a cal from canara bank as technical officer. As an engineer in mechanical i\'m totally confused wich one to choose.post ur comments
CHEERS,
SABITH
Dear friend Specialist officer mainly for particular section you can say IT sectional officer/or Law sctional officer but a PO is all in all even they are capable to do the Bank's IT officers or law related works they can do perfectly through their exceptional idea/IQ etc.Actually PO for clerk/officer/decision maker etc.So friend you are serving as Po in IOB never try to degrade you leaving the present job, your knowledge will be helpful to your professional field as added knowledge.
Difference between IT officer/specialist officer is nothing initially but later if you tally now bank wise you will see Pos are the best for bank they get promotion rapidly. There are examples a PO can go Grade 1 officer to the level of Grade 789 even 12 too.But a specialist officer on an average maximum can reach up to grade 1 to 3 or 4.
Thank you,
