Re: What is the main difference between Probationary Officer and Specialist Officer?

    1. A bank PO may be appointed as officer in various dept like treasury, operations, clearing house etc whereas a specialist officer is mandatory placed in that particular dept for which he was selected like IT, agriculture, mktng etc.
    2. Generally the starting remuneration offered to a Specialist officer is more than that of PO.
    3. Some bank employees says that the growth happens more in case of PO than Specialist officer.
    4. POs are recruited in bulk whereas there are limited seats for specialist officer.

Once someone has appointed as PO then he/she needs to work in every department from top to bottom. From clerk to manager.Once PO complete their probation period they transfer to the post of Branch Manager. On the other hand specialist officer appoints for the posts like-Information technology officer,Agriculture officer,Marketing officer,Law officer, technical officer etc.
Salary of Specialist officer is more than that of Po
Usually number of vacancies comes for PO more than Specialist officer
Educational qualification is high for the post of specialist officer as compared to Po

PO is almost like an assistant manager
there exist a post between PO and BANK MANAGER called specialist officer.

he will be constrained to some categories. it is not adirect post
PO on promotion becomes a Specialist ofiicer

Re: What is the main difference between Probationary Officer and Specialist Officer?

see basically the difference lies at the entry of the both of the posts.
    BANK PO:
    • BANK PO is the entry point in officer scale in banks and the chances of growth are very good from here if one performs well during the probation period.
here during the probation period officers have to perform any work relating to general banking and administration activity .
also bank po are not specialised in any field can be appointed in any field of the banking sector after the
    probation period

    BANK SPECIALIST OFFICER:
    • BANK SPECIALIST OFFICER are the officers which are to be appointed in the specific fields
Information Technology officer will take care of its software systems and look into the maintenance of servers , database ,networking aspects.
Law officer have to handle legal and judicial matters related to bank.
and so on this means that these officers have a specialised field where they will work after their training.
also you have to have a specialised or technical degree to apply for the
    SPECIALIST OFFICER post

BOTH ARE OFFICERS BUT SPECIALIST OFFICER HAS MORE WEIGHTAGE IN ALL RESPECTS.

    Hello friend

BANKS have generally three kinds of employyes.

    1. Clerks

    2. PO

    3. Specialist Officers

Out of these,PO are the Probabationery officers who are to get work in thefront office and they basically deal with the public.

The employees we see in the banks are from this category or clerk .

But specialist Officers are those specialists who have specialisation in some technical field. They work in the back offices .

    They are of following kinds.

1 Information Technology Officer Scale I
2 Agriculture Field Officer Scale I
    3 Rajbhasha Officer Scale I
    4 Law Officer Scale I
    5 Technical Officer Scale I
    6 HR/Personnel Officer Scale I
    7 Marketing Officer Scale I
8 Information Technology Officer Scale II
    9 Law Officer Scale II

    Thanks

    Hello,
In today's banking world everything is same, everyone is required to do every work.
But nowadays PO and Specialist officer are two categories.
PO has to do each and every work from cash collection to loan disbursement i.e. all work of banking.
Specialist officer are desired to have the specialisation in the field for which they have chosen for like IT, HR, Marketing etc.
SO have to be well versed in their field.
PO has to be all rounders.

Both the post are equally attractive and requires hardwork and commitment.

    All the best.

    Hello,
The main difference between the two is only like a difference between dhoni (bat + bowl + wicket keeping) and gautam gambhir (only bat).
Such as PO can be deputed to any work ranging from cash handling to loan disbursement to CASA opening and SO is deputed for special work like of IT, HR or Marketing or in some special field only..

Cool Re: What is the main difference between Probationary Officer and Specialist Officer?

Dear friend Specialist officer mainly for particular section you can say IT sectional officer/or Law sctional officer but a PO is all in all even they are capable to do the Bank's IT officers or law related works they can do perfectly through their exceptional idea/IQ etc.Actually PO for clerk/officer/decision maker etc.So friend you are serving as Po in IOB never try to degrade you leaving the present job, your knowledge will be helpful to your professional field as added knowledge.

Difference between IT officer/specialist officer is nothing initially but later if you tally now bank wise you will see Pos are the best for bank they get promotion rapidly. There are examples a PO can go Grade 1 officer to the level of Grade 789 even 12 too.But a specialist officer on an average maximum can reach up to grade 1 to 3 or 4.

    Thank you,
