    Hello,
It can be only done after graduation from the recognized university and with one of the subject from the list, PCMB, or History, Geography, Statistics etc..
IAS requires you to be master in your subject as its paper is amongst the toughest competition exams paper and getting selected is also too tough...
As it is having three phases and you have to clear all in one attempt, missing any one will bring you back to first...
So you have tp prepare well for the exam...

Any Indian citizen in the age range between 21 to 30 years with a degree in any subject from a recognized University is eligible to appear in the exam for IAS. The exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission in three phases.Preliminary, Main and Interview.

But the exam is not easy as that. It requires lot of hard work. The aspirant should be well conversant with day to day developments in the world , Updated general awareness, IQ, GK, and an inborn talent to be an administrator. The exam is conducted every year in which more than 5 lakh candidates appear out of which the successful candidates will be less than one thousand . From the one thousand successful candidates, those in the merit list up to one hundred get the highly sought after position in the IAS. This shows the toughness of the competition. It is therefore essential to obtain regular coaching also for the examination. There are lot of coaching centers available all over the country. Choose the right one and proceed. Good luck.

Re: Qualification required for IAS Examination?

    Educational Eligibility for IAS Exams
    • You must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification

    • You who have appeared or intend to appear for the qualifying examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear for the Preliminary Examination. All such candidates who qualify to appear for the Civil Services Main Examination must produce proof of having passed the said examination along with their application for the Main Examination.

    • The UPSC may in exceptional cases treat you without the foregoing requisite qualification as an eligible candidate if he / she has passed an examination conducted by other institutions, the standard of which justifies his / her admission in the opinion of the Commission.

    • You must be with professional and technical qualifications recognised by the Government as equivalent to professional and technical degrees.

    • If you have passed the final year of MBBS or any Medical Examination but are yet to complete the internship can also appear for the Main Examination. However they must submit along with their Main Examination application, a certificate from the concerned authority of the University / Institution that they have passed the final professional medical examination. At the Interview stage they must then produce a certificate from a competent authority that they have completed (including internship) all the requirements for the award of the Medical Degree.

You will have to read newspapers and watch news to prepare yourself for the general knowledge section of general studies papers. There will be 1 paper on General Studies in Preliminary exam and 2 in Main examination.

Other than that NCERT books for Class 12th are very useful to prepare for general studies paper. You will also have to select optional subjects. Any subject from your course that you find easy to study should be good. Please remember that you will have to select one optional subject for preliminary and 2 for main examination.

    IAS Eligibility ;

    1. You should be Indian citizen.

    2. A bachelor degree in any stream.

    3. There is no percentage criteria.

    4. The age limit for IAS is 21 to 30 years.

    5. There is 3 years relaxation for OBC.

    6. SC/ST are eligible for 5 years relaxation.
