Hi Buddy,
First of all you need to remember that there were 4 companies that participated in GATE and said that they will be recruiting students based on GATE score and the companies are NTPC, BHEL, IOCL and Power Grid.
--> As you have mentioned that you belong to Instrumentation and Control Candidate you cannot apply for all the companies, you can only for those which allow students belonging to Instrumentation and Control also for their recruitment process.
--> It's never about the GATE score or percentile that you need to score instead it remains on the Cutoff that a particular company keeps for their selection and shortlisting.
--> For example a company can say that students who secured a rank below 1000 are eligible for attending the further rounds of recruitment provided they must have registered their names in the company website along with their GATE details.
--> Once shortlisted you be allowed for further rounds based on your performance in the further rounds you'll be selected.
--> As you cannot apply now with GATE 2012 being done and dusted you only have a chance of writing it Next year i.e GATE 2013.
In GATE 2012 there were 4 companies that participated if lucky enough then there might some companies being added up in GATE 2013. So, make sure you prepare well and earn yourself a job in top public sector organizations.
