Central Government of India has a separate constitutional body that is UPSC - Union Public Service Commission Board and this board is responsible to conduct examination of this recruitment process according to rules and selection of deserving candidates for IAS and other equivalent posts according to scored rank in examination

To apply for preliminary examination of Indian Civil Service, you must posses a degree in any stream from a recognized university. If you are in final year of graduation then also you may apply for prelims examination

Passing in prelims test is mandatory because if you will not pass this stage then you will not be allowed to appear for main examination so first of all, you need to care about this examination and think about other further processes. Prelims exam contains 2 objective type papers for 400 marks and papers are - General Studies and CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test

When you will get the result of prelims examination and pass that so you will have to apply for main examination at www.upsc.gov.in and while applying, you have to choose a subject from the list provided in the application form because there will be two papers of optional subject and both papers are mandatory and other 4 papers will be based on general studies section and paper I will be conducted for Essay and English Comprehension where - Paper contains 300 marks and all other 6 papers carries 250 marks each. Qualifying in all papers will be necessary to be eligible for personality test

Personality Test/ Interview Process : When you will qualify main exam then you will get the call for personality test and this is considered as the toughest process in this recruitment so you have to be prepared under a proper and experienced guidance then only you should appear for this and this process has 275 marks

Now you have to start your preparation for next year's civil service prelims examination because this year's civil service prelims has been conducted at 26th of May 2013 and main exam is going to be conducted at 1st of December 2013 so you should make ICS 2014 as your target and focus on preparation

You have enough time and we would like to suggest you a best way to prepare for this examination and that is - Coaching Institute because institutes provides various facilities - Quality Teaching by Experienced Faculties, Complete notes according to the new syllabus for each subject, Study on new pattern of examination, practice and speed test - online/offline, Monthly Magazines, Encouragement classes for all aspirants etc. so understand the importance of coaching and join any one very good and reputed institute to prepare well. You may choose any one of the following :

Vajiram and Ravi IAS Study Circle
    Sachdeva New PT College
    Rau's IAS Study Academy
    Chanakya IAS Study Center

Most of the coaching institutes will provide you about 8 hours everyday but you need to give the same or more time to preparation and if you give at least 6 hours from your side and 8 hours from coaching so this will be a right time. Follow all the instructions of teachers and prepare accordingly so you will definitely get success

Use different books and previous years question papers in your preparation and keep practicing for betterment of your preparation because revision is the best thing and that may only be done through practice so give more time for practice
