    Which entrance exam I have to appear to become an IPS Officer? Number of posts available in IPS?

    I want to become an ips officer.
    now i m in last year of btech mechanical engineering.
    so please tell me what should i do & how many posts are there in ips...
    through which these exams are conducted....

    This examinations is the gateway to 27 civil services of government IPS,IRS,IFS.
    Graduation is the minimum eligibility criteria to appear for this exam.
    Those candidates who qualified in the preliminary exam normally in the month of october.
    Once you are qualified the test the final stage is interview personality & mental ability.
    Then the candidate who have secure good rank go for the training they postedas perrecruitment.
    In order to become an IAS officer you need to appear for the conducted by UPSC selects candidates for Indian services,Indian Foreign services through civil services the examinations .

    The exam conducted and final selection the basis of appearing in the exam to satisfy minimum graduation in any recognized university.You must have done graduation from any recognised university the age limit.
    Exam they have to write to become IPS officer.For all the civil services,there is only one exam which is civil services exam.



    After qualifing in both the exam there is interview for the exam is conducted once in a year.

    Hello Friend,

    For Becoming an IPS officer you have to appear for Indian Police Service examinations. It an a recruitment examination through which Indian Police appointed candidates in various posts.



    -> Candidate have to pass graduation from any government recognized university.

    -> Age of candidate must be minimum 21 years and maximum 30 years.Upper limit of age relaxation for SC/ST candidate is 5 years and 3 years for OBC candidates.

    -> Candidate must be citizen of India.

    Physical fitness-

    Height and weight ration is given below:


    Minimum chest 84 cm for males and 79 cm for female.

    Candidate should have good hearing power.

    Candidate should not have Color blindness.

    Candidates blood pressure should be normal.

    Selection Procedure

    * Preliminary Exam.

    * Main Exam( It contains total 9 different papers).

    * Interview.

    * Fitness Test.

    Maximum Number of Attempts in IPS

    General candidate can apply 4 times.

    OBC candidate can apply 7 times.

    No restriction for SC/ST candidates.

    To become an IPS Officer you have to appear in the UPSC Civil Services Exams
    Minimum eligibilty to apply for the UPSC Civil Services exams is:

    Education: Graduation pass in any stream from a recognized university
    No minimum percentage of marks is required in Graduation

    Age- Minimum 21 years
    Maximum 30 years
    OBC can apply till 33 years
    SC/ST can apply till 35 years

    Attempts/Chances: UPSC has also fixed number of attempts
    General- 4 times
    OBC-7 times
    SC/ST-No Restrictions

    UPSC Civil Services Exams are held in three stages: Prelims

    Next prelims exams would be held in May 2014

    Number of seats is not announced, but can only be known once final result is announced

    • Interpersonal skills including communication skills;

    a) A brief idea about History and Geography of India.
    b) Constitution of India and Indian Polity: This part will include questions on the Constitution of India, as well as all constitutional, legal, administrative and other issues emerging from the politico- administrative system prevalent in the country.
    c) Current National Issues and Topics of Social Relevance : This part is intended to test the Candidate’s awareness of current National issues and topics of social relevance in the present-day India, such as the following :

    (i) The Indian economy and issues relating to planning, mobilization of resources, growth, development and employment.
    (ii) Issues arising from the social and economic exclusion of large sections from the benefits of development.
    (iii) Other issues relating to the development and management of human resource.
    (iv) Health issues including the management of Public Health, Health education and ethical concerns regarding health-care.
    (v) Law enforcement, internal security and related issues such as the preservation of communal harmony.

    G) Statistical Analysis, graph and diagrams : This part will test the candidate’s ability to draw conclusions from information presented in Statistical, graphical or diagramatical form and to interpret them.

    According to your statement to become an IPS officer you are to appear UPSC conducted Indian Police Services entrance examination.This IPS is also a part of the

    Indian Civil Services. Secondly the no. of posts can not be fixed it is variable appointment is given on the basis of Preliminary/Mains/Interview marks obtaind,

    and as per merit list is prepared.Before applying for IPS examination you are to follow IPS eligibility:-

    IPS Eligibility:-

    ** A Graduate from the recognized University or a final year candidate, in any discipline/stream can write Indian IPS entrance exam. conducted by UPSC every year.

    To become an IPS (Indian Police Service) officer you have to pass CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION which was conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) once in a year.

    UPSC issues the notification for recruitment in IPS every year in the month of January/February. So you can apply for the next year Civil Services Exam.

    • Online application - In January/February
    • Online application Close - In March
    • Preliminary Exam - In May
    • Mains Exam - In November
    • Interview - January
