no you do not required to score 60% marks in each subject. only your main subjects like physics, chemistry, math marks are counted. nd u must be scoring above 60% marks in these subjects only. and 60% marks or above in aggregrate.

It is not necessary for an iitjee applicant to hav 60% in each and every subjects including optional......actually the criteria is that the applicant must hav got aggregate 60% marks in physics, chemistry and maths.....marks of optional subjects like bengali, computer science etc are not being considered as criteria for applying iitjee.....give stress on pcm....
    hav a great future ahead....

Your aggregate percentage "ll be calculated only on the basis of what marks you have obtained in physics, chemistry and maths., if it is aggregate 60% in PCM then only you can sit for iitjee exam.

Re: Do we have to score 60% in each of the 5 subjects or is it aggregate?

    Hello Dear,
As per the eligibility criteria that has been set by the IIT JEE in this year i.e 2012 you have to secure a 60% in aggregate means in total. You have to include all the papers that you have appeared in your west bengal board examination and have to calculate the total percentage by the formula:-
Aggregate Percentage = (Total marks achieved including all the subjects appeared in Board exam / Full marks of all the subjects ) * 100
So in order to be eligible to appear for IIT JEE examination you must secure 60% or above in aggregate in your qualifying examination i.e. west bengal board, if you belong to General category. And if you belong to SC / ST / PD category then you must secure 55% or above in aggregate in your qualifying exam.
So start your preparations seriously. You have to get thorough in all the fundamental concepts and have to work very hard giving all your time towards studies only. You should manage your time well and avoid yourself from all the distracting things like TV , Games , friends , etc. and should devote all your time towards studies only.Always remember one thing "Your future is in your hands." Make notes and study thoroughly.
I hope this will help you.
Good luck for your exam.Study well.
