    Hi Buddy,

It seems like your thinking of the last and top most step of ladder but you forgot that you should climb the ladder from the very first step itself, Before applying for any of the civil services examination first you should check whether you meet the specific eligibility criteria or not, there are no special examination for services such as IAS/IPS as both these are a part of civil service examinations, if you fulfill the criteria then you're eligible to apply for Civil Services Examination, Civil services examination is conducted every year by UPSC.

There examination will be conducted in Three different stages by the UPSC.

Preliminary exam (civil service aptitude test)
    Main examination
    Interview

    (Paper 1) (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs
(Paper II) (200 marks) – Duration : Two hrs

After the completion of the three stages of tests you will be tested in physically by conducting tests like running, chest expansion etc.. You must be be among the top 150 ranks in order for you to get into IPS as any better rank i.e less than 100 will open up the option of IAS.

Civils is one of the most toughest examination in India, so make reading as a habit and follow newspapers/magazines, constantly be in touch with current affairs and latest happenings,if you're eligible take time don't just be in a hurry, Start preparation well in advance (say 10 months), make a Strategic plan, achieve your desired goal.
As your still a second year graduate you have a great chance of clearing civils easily in your first attempt keep preparing for Civils at the same time make sure that you are also concentrating on your education as well.

It is really great that you want to appear for civil service exams. It is a highly competitive exam and hence requires good preparation. There are lots of Civil Service Exams like IPS,IAS,SCRA,NDA and all these exams are very tough but if you try and dedicate yourself for the exam you will definitely crack it.
First you have to clear the preliminary exam. This exam consists of general studies and one optional subject paper.
For general studies you should refer to as many books as possible. Start your preparation from now itself.
You can even join some coaching classes. The topics are very vast and needs a good knowledge and thus you need lot of time for preparation.

I am suggesting you some way to prepare for this exam :

1.Read news paper daily to increase your general knowledge and to be updated.
2.Practice any two subjects of your choice .
3.Make a clear idea about Indian Geography and history ,lots of questions comes from there.
4.Make your English as good as possible
If you do all those things I suggested it will be very easy for you to crack the exams. All the best.

    Dear friend,
As you IAS in India is the very popular and competitive exam so it will be beneficial for you if you start your study as soon as possible.
You must decide the subjects as soon as possible which you are going to take for the mains examination.
If you want to take one of your engineering subject as you mains paper then you should take that paper seriously and should go in the depth of the syllabus.
For better guidance you may join distance learning program.
    Eligibility criteria for IAS exam-
Your age should be in between 21 to 30 years.
You should be a citizen of India.
NOTE- It is not compulsory for you to choose one of your engineering subjects for mains exam, you may choose any given subjects for the mains exam.
    Best of luck........
