    Can Zoology graduate having less in HS attend IAS exam?

    I want to give IAS exam with history.But I have completed my B.Sc. with ZOOLOGY.My age-27 years. Now I am an REGIONAL SALES MANAGER in INTAS PHARMACEUTICALS.My percentage is-58.2% in graduation. In H.S. my percentage is only -48%.But I want to make me as an IAS. PRANJIT

    YES, you are eligible to give the UPSC Civil services Exams.
    This exam is conducted to fill the IAS post along with 23 other posts.

    Eligibilty to appear in this exam is:
    Graduation pass in any stream
    No minimum marks is required in Graduation or even in class 12th

    Age- It should be between 21 and 30 years
    OBC candidates can apply till 33 years and SC/ST can apply till 35 years

    Attempts- 4 attempts are allowed for the General candidates and 7 for the OBC candidates
    SC/ST candidates can apply as many times as they want

    This exam is held in Three Stages:
    >> CSAT
    >> MAINS
    >> Interview

    Exam pattern for the CSAT exams.
    In this stage two papers are there and these two are common for all the candidates who appear in this stage
    General Stdies paper 1
    General Stdies paper 2

    The Main written examination will consist of the following papers:
    Paper I One of the Indian languages to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.
    Paper II English

    Paper III Essay

    Papers IV & V: General Studies

    Papers VI VII, VIII & IX; Any two subjects to be selected from the list of the optional subjects

    Commerce and Accountancy


    Electrical Engineering

    Dear there is no criteria of percentage marks required for IAS exam by UPSC board means if you have only a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university then you can apply for this exam but your age criteria is also applied in this exam which is 21-30 years and if you are in SC/ST then you would get the relaxation of 5 years in upper age and OBCs category candidates would get 3 years of upper age relaxation

    Final year pursuing candidates are also eligible to apply for this exam and you can apply between 02-02-2013 to 04-03-2013 and appear for preliminary exam at 19th of may 2013

    Dear you should not worry about the percentage marks because UPSC board never ask for percentage marks for any exam and of any academic class but the candidate must have passed the minimum required qualification from a recognized university or board or institute

    • Yes, definately you can apply for the Civil services examination for entering into the Indian administrative services.
    • Even if you are having a degree B.Sc. with ZOOLOGY then also you are eligibile as they want graduation in any stream from an recognised university.
    • Your's age must be between the limit stated for it which is 21 years to 30 years.
    • And age relaxations is given only to students who are from an reserved as per central government.
    • The notification of the exam will arrive on second of february and the exam will be conducted in may.

    Yes having less in Zoology in HS you can appear IAS, there is no restriction to do IAS.


    1.Any graduate from a recognized university in any discipline can write IAS exam.

    2.IAS(Indian Administrative Services)exam is conducted by UPSC every year.

    3.Age must be: Gen: 21-30 years,relaxation is there OBC 3 years, S/C S/T 5 years.

    4.Candidates must be the citizen of India.

    5.Attempts: Gen: 4 attempts.OBC: 7 attempts.S/C S/T: Unlimited.

    You are to clear preliminary/mains/exam and interview to get selection as per merit list.
