    Dear Friend,
Definitely you can pursue BCA being a Commerce student.

The eligibility criteria for BCA are:

    >>The candidates should have passed 10+2 level in any stream from a recognized university.

    >>The age of the candidates should be minimum 17 years.

Some of the colleges conducts entrance examination for BCA course. The exam is on the basic knowledge on computer science at 10+2 level. For admission in those colleges you need to crack the entrance examination.

But if you do not have studied mathematics in 10+2 level you can not pursue MCA.

MCA is the post graduate course.

    The eligibility criteria for MCA:

    >>The candidates should have a graduation degree in any stream from a recognized university.

    >>The candidates should have studied Mathematics in 10+2 level. It is mandatory.

    >>There is no limitation on the maximum age.

    Hi dear,

Yes of-course you can apply for BCA after 12th commerce without maths background.

You should get atleast 60% marks in 12th.
You should be minimum 17 years old.

After BCA you can also join in for MCA.

But if you take my suggestion then it is better if you try for B.Com and side by side do CA/CS.

Finally choice is yours. Choose what is best for you and suits your requirements.

    All the best

Re: Can a commerce student without Maths study BCA?

    Hello dear,
According to me yes it is possible to join for B.C.A.(Bachelor in Computer Applications) course without studying mathematics in 10+2.But there are some requirements too that is you must have a percentage of more than 50% in total for general candidate and for SC/ST/OBC it is 40%.

There are a lots of job opportunities in B.C.A and further you can also opt for M.C.A which has more value.

The minimum duration of the course is 3 years(6 semesters).
You have to pass in all the 6 semesters to get a B.C.A degree.
You need to maintain a good attendance and have to perform well in laboratory work and other circular assignment in every concerned subject.
Good conduct and character is also needed for a better impression.

Best Wishes for your bright future.

    With Regards,

    K.I.N.G.

One can pursue BCA even if he/she did not study maths in +2 level but then if you are planning to pursue MCA through the regular mode then preference is given to those who had maths in +2.
However you can pursue MCA through the correspondence mode even if you didn't have maths in +2.

Re: Can a commerce student without Maths study BCA?

BCA ===>>>>>> Bachelor of Computer Applications

    Eligibility Criteria Required

Candidates should have passed with 50% in aggregate of HS under a recognized board

Candidates can pursue their 12th level in any discipline

No pending backlogs in 12th exam

candidates must have mathematics as a major subject in 12th level (applicable in some Institutions )

    Point to Note here ===>>>

The first three criteria makes you eligible for BCA course

But the 4th criteria will not allow to apply for BCA in all the institutions

you need to check each and individual websites/brochures of institutions where you want to apply for BCA course

the institutions clearly mention the clauses for admission there.

so first verify it and then only apply to a particular institution
to avoid any unwanted trouble afterwards
