Anything like a certificate exam in Statistics?

    Hi everybody.

I have done B.Sc (Hons.) Statistics from D.U. (a topper) and MBA. I was working in a senior managerial position for around 10 years. Due to family commitments (marriage and child) I took a break for about 10 years. Now I want to take up some teaching position in Statistics. Due to this near 20 year gap, my knowledge of statistics is a bit rusted. I am brushing up my statistics for this purpose.

I wanted to know if there is/are any examination/s conducted by and any instt. as a certificate in Statistics. Applying for any such exam would motivate me further to speed up my learning process.

Any information in this regard would be of great help to me.

Well, One Year PG Diploma in Statistical Methods is offered by Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. Also check out the other branches of Indian Statistical Institute (Delhi, Kolkata).

Also, some Indian universities are offering One Year PG in Statistics via distance education mode. For example University of Open Learning, Punjab University, Chandigarh.

If you want to teach and also want a certification in Statistics, it is better to attempt UGC's NET exam, too in Statistics related subjects (Population Studies or Mathematical Sciences). There is no upper age limit for NET (for NET and JRF, the upper age limit is 28, though). On passing NET, you will be eligible to teach Statistics in all national institutes and universities in India, as far as I know (please get more info on this).

While the UGC conducts the NETfor Humanities subjects, it conducts NET in collaboration with CSIR for Science and Mathematics subjects. This year onwards, the exam questions would only be objective type. NET is conducted twice in a year (usually in June and December).

    Hope this helps.
