Re: Am I eligible for IAS being BS student of BITS Pilani distance education?

    dear friend,

right now you are not eligible for the exam
    but
yes you will be eligible for the exam
as now you are in just first year of your degree

and for IAS one needs to complete his/her graduation
and final year students are also eligible

so you can apply for the exam when you will be in last year of your graduation
you should be aware of that there is no minimum marks required to appear for the exam

but there is restriction in the no. of attempts
for general it is 4 times
for obc it is 7 times
and for sc/st there is no limit

then for the exam you will have to be a ciitizen of India

age limit for the exam should be between
    21 to 30 years

this age limit is for general category students

this age limit is relaxed in specific cases
for obc 3 years relaxation is given
for sc/st 5 years relaxation is given

Re: Am I eligible for IAS being BS student of BITS Pilani distance education?

No....presently You are not eligible for IAS !!!
You must be well aware of the eligibility conditions of IAS to clear all doubts related to it

    ~ Eligibility Criteria ~

    Academic Qualification
Graduate degree of a recognized university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Mathematics, Physics, Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university

    ~ AGE LIMIT ~

    21-30 years(For General Candidates)
    21-32 years (OBC)
    21-35 years (SC/ST candidates)
    21-40 years (Physically handicapped)

    ~ Number of Attempts ~

    4 (For General Candidates)
    7 (OBC)
    Unlimited (SC/ST candidates)

    ~ CSAT has 3 parts ~
    1. Preliminary exam
    2. Mains exam
    3. Personal Interview

    ~ Question Pattern ~

    • Assertion and reason
    • Logical reasoning
    • Data interpretation
    • Basic computer knowledge
    • English
    • Analytical problems

It is quite clear from the eligibility norms that you will be eligible for the IAS exams once you have got your graduation degree!!
you can also apply in the final year of your graduation but provided...you need to show all the requisite documents and mark sheets during your recruitment
So You need to wait for some more time until you are in the final year of graduation or complete your graduation!!
then you can surely apply for IAS exam i.e. Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)

    WISH YOU GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Am I eligible for IAS being BS student of BITS Pilani distance education?

No currently you are not eligible for the IAS exam , you have to complete your graduation first then you can apply for the exam .
The eligibility criteria for the exam is below :
-> one should done their graduation from any recognized university with minimum 60% marks for general cast , 55% for other cast .
-> A final year student can also eligible for applying the exam .
-> age limit is 21-30 for general cast , 3 years relaxion for obc , 5 years relaxion for sc/st/ex-serviceman / physically handicapped .
-> maximum 4 attempts are allowed for the general cast , 7 for obc cast and no limit for the no of attempts for the sc/st cast .

So you will give the exam in your final year of your graduation or after the graduation till that you can prepare for the exam .
You have enough time for the preparation so prepare for it and when you eligible give it .
    Good Luck

Re: Am I eligible for IAS being BS student of BITS Pilani distance education?

If you are the student of BITS Pilani and currently pursuing first year of your bachelor's degree then you are not eligible to apply for IAS examination because to be eligible for IAS examination, you should posses a degree in any stream from a reputed institute or university or should be pursuing final year of your graduation under three or four years bachelor's degree course and should have passed in all previous year exams conducted by the university then only you will be considered eligible to apply for IAS preliminary examination

Your university is reputed and recognized under the norms of the government but your current stage of study is not enough and not making you eligible for this examination so you should not worry and just complete your degree and you should apply when you come in final year and if you want then apply after completing degree because UPSC board conduct this examination once a year that has two different stages which are following

Preliminary Examination : This test is only a screening test to find out very good and eligible candidates for main examination and score secured by the candidate in prelims will not be measured in making ranking of final exam but passing in prelims is compulsory for all who wants to appear for main examination of IAS

General Studies - 200 Marks - Objective Type
CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - 200 Marks - Objective Type

Main Examination : Seven papers will be there in conventional type pattern in main exam and papers are - Paper I has two sections - Section I comprise of Essay Writing for 200 marks and Section II comprise of English Comprehension for 100 marks. Paper II, III, IV & V are based only on General Studies but there would be some separate and different part of GS in all papers and each of these four papers contains 250 marks. Paper VI and VII are based on the offered optional subject by the board in which you have to choose any one optional subject from the list given in application form of main exam and both paper contains 500 marks means 250 for each. A necessary note to remember that qualifying in every paper of main exam is mandatory

Personality Test - 275 marks and you will be called for personality test after passing main exam

I have attached official notification of this exam please download and get more information

    All the best
