For the IPS exam one needs to satisfy the following criterion-

    >you should be an Indian citizen
    >you should have completed graduation from a recognized university
    >the stream/discipline of the degree is not a criterion , any stream candidate can apply
    >your age should be between 21-30 years.
    >a degree from an open university is not eligible.
    >there are age relaxation for reserved category like SC(5 years) , OBC (3 years). etc...

as you have completed B.tech , you are surely legible for the IPS exam.

    good luck

Dear IPS - Indian Police Service is national level police service in India and the only way to get highest rank in police service in India that is why most of the people prefer to become IPS Officer after completing their bachelor's degree and remember that IPS rank is under IAS when it is different but same examination conducted by UPSC board for both IAS and IPS examination that is Indian Civil Service Examination conducted once a year by UPSC board in two sections that is - Preliminary Examination and Main Examination and Interview Process will be conducted for final selection and if you qualify all these sections then you will become IAS Officer but there are some particular physical and medical standards required for IPS Officer rank and if you complete all those standards according to the demand of the board and panel of experts then you will be posted for IPS Officer rank and if you do not complete required physical and medical standards test then you will be posted to another rank that is - IAS or IRS or Railway Service etc.
