Re: Am I eligible to apply for IAS exam having completed graduation? Last date of form submission and suitable books for the preparation of IAS exam?

    Dear Friend,

I am sorry to write but this year you cannot apply for UPSC Civil Services Examination. The notification is released every year in the month of February and last date of applying is in the middle of March. The prelims is conducted in the Month of May every year. So, you can apply next year. But, you should start your preparation immediately.

Please write your subjects then only you can suggest helpful books. There are so many subjects that it is very difficult to write books for all the subjects. For General Science, You should study from India Year Book released by Government of India every year and read "The Hindu" newspaper everyday thoroughly. Other than these, you must go through NCERT books for all the subjects.

If you have time, it is better to join a good coaching institute.

I would like to tell you few basics regarding this. To become an IAS officer, you have to write Civil Services Examination conducted every year.

Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the various Civil Services of the Government of India, such as
    1. Indian Administrative Service (IAS),
    2. Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS),
    3. Indian Foreign Service (IFS),
    4. Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS),
    5. Indian Forest Service (IFS),
    6. Indian Police Service (IPS),
    7. Indian Revenue Service (IRS),
    8. Indian Postal Service,
    9. Indian civil accounts service,
    10. Indian Trade Service and many others

The examination is conducted in two phases:

The Prelims examination, consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies and Aptitude Test), and

The Main examination, consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay) type followed by the Personality Test (Interview).

Students are selected based on their aggregate score in Mains written and Interview.

The entire process from the notification of the Preliminary examination to declaration of the final results takes roughly one year.

Public Administration, Geography, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, History are popular subjects among candidates over the year but you should select your subjects based on your knowledge and interest.

    All the best.
    Thank you.
